Я уловил какое‑то оживление в воздухе над тем местом, где стоял наш фургончик.

Вот дерьмо!

Теневой коп! Трансляция от стены магазина, работа собственными механизмами; мерцание огней в густом смоге. И тут же — вспышка оранжевого света; инфо‑сигналы из глаз полицейского. На какую‑то долю секунды свет выхватил Мэнди, считывая информацию. Она увернулась от световых потоков и принялась что есть мочи колотить в дверцу фургона.

Напуганная внезапным светом, собака залилась лаем.

Я открыл дверцу ровно настолько, чтобы худая девчонка сумела пролезть. Мэнди просочилась внутрь.

В этот момент собака попробовала вцепиться полицейскому в голень. Но клыки цапнули только дымку. Собака казалась обескураженной!

Мэнди протянула мне пакет.

— Достала? — спросил я, помогая ей забраться внутрь.

И снова снаружи — оранжевая вспышка, обжигающий свет.

— Достала Прелестей, — сказала она, перешагнув через Существо.
